Ever Try Yardwork with a Landscape Rake?
"I hope you used this landscape rake, it is great!"
A landscape rake will quickly become one of your most trusted and used yard tools you have. These seemingly complicated pieces of equipment that attach to the back of your ATV are actually not that difficult to work with, assuming you know what you’re doing.
This special rake that resembles a net can be purchased new or even used if you carefully examine it before purchase. Sometimes you even have the option to rent one, though if you’re doing your own work I don’t recommend this. Why? Because you’ll find that you need it a lot more often than you think and you’ll waste a lot of money by renting each time.
A good landscape rake should be easy to use, without the need of adjustments or lubrication to it along the way. They should have universal use, meaning they should be able to work with ATVs, lawn tractors, or even a truck. Typically, they’re constructed of high quality carbon steel, considering that they’ll be coming into contact with rocks and other hazards along the way.
Two reputable companies that consistently turn out good products in this space are Harley and York. You absolutely cannot go wrong with either of these companies, and price is very comparable, so just go with what’s available. If you can get a solid, heavy duty rake for under $400 you’re doing very well.
Ideally, the rake will be able to operate in four different modes. First, you’ll notice it can be turned upside down to be used to smooth the ground, as the teeth will be pointing up. Flip it back over with the teeth pointing down, and you’ll see how it works to penetrate the land. If you want less penetration, simply turn the main section around which will cause less friction between the teeth and the ground. Lastly, you can have one side of teeth pointing up and one side pointing down if you prefer to smooth right after tilling. Specialty rakes, like dethatching rakes, are designed to get rid of destructive moss build up. There’s other types as well, each dealing with a specific problem, including shrub, sand, or skid rakes.
